This is the kitchen blog of The Ivy Inn Restaurant in Charlottesville, Virginia. It is housed in an 18th century tollhouse, and has operated as a restaurant since 1973. Lester Terry, it’s first restaurateur ran it until 1980 when he sold to Jean Abbott of Charlottesville. In 1987 Jean sold the restaurant to Barbara Shifflett and David Elkins. In 1995 it was purchased by the Vangelopoulos family and has been operated by them ever since.

We feature locally inspired seasonal American cuisine paying homage to traditional and classical recipes, with an eye towards modern technique and elements.

The Ivy Inn Kitchen is:

Angelo Vangelopoulos, Chef/Owner

Jon Thornburg, Pastry Chef

Bryan Counts, Sous Chef

Mike Perry, Sous Chef

Jesus Uribe, Pastry Assistant

  1. Hey guys,

My family first ate with you when I was ten, and we all loved it. We couldn’t stop talking about you. We recently went on vacation and made a special trip out of our way to Richmond just for you. WORTH IT!!! I am twenty-two now, and can appreciate your mushroom/goat cheese concoction even more! Hopefully, we can get there again in a timelier fashion! Thank you!

  2. State of the art dining! Tops in the culinary food chain! The best of meals and wines served in Charlottesville.

  3. We will be visiting Polyface Farms on April 21 and would like to eat at a restaurant that serves Polyface food that evening. Will we be able to find things on the Ivy Inn menu from Polyface? Thanks for your reply. Jan
